DIGITAL X-RAYS

Digital x-rays at Jarvis Family Dental

What are Digital X-Rays?

Digital x-rays are a form of dental technology that are used to take detailed, in-depth photos of your teeth, mouth and jaw, which allows dentists to thoroughly examine for potential problems, including:

  • Tooth decay and infections that may be otherwise hard to see or detect
  • Tumours
  • Bone loss, which is linked to gum disease
  • Wisdom teeth
  • Tooth impactions

They are a dependable form of x-ray imaging that can help fix or prevent these issues which, if left unchecked, could lead to serious oral health problems for your teeth and mouth.

Compared to other forms of x-ray and imaging procedures, digital x-rays use less radiation. They are safe for patients of all ages.

How do digital x-rays work?

The procedure typically begins with the insertion of a bitewing into your mouth. You’ll be asked to bite down on it, after which a picture is instantly taken and inspected by members of our dentistry team. They’ll use the image to determine and impactions, complications or other problems.

When do I need a digital x-ray?

Digital x-rays are usually taken during an annual exam, or if the dentist feels they need to check for abnormalities. If you are concerned about what might be going on in your mouth and think you should have it checked through radiograph, just ask a member of our team and they’ll consult with you.
