ROOT CANAL

Root canal treatments in Haldimand County

What is a root canal?

The hollow area in the root of a tooth is called the root canal. The root canal is filled with dental pulp, tissue, blood vessels and nerves which can cause great discomfort and sensitivity if infected.

Root canal procedures are very common and are performed to remove damaged or infected tissue and nerves in the canal. Once the procedure is completed, the repaired tooth will no longer have any feeling, but any previous pain or discomfort will be alleviated.

Patients with infected root canals typically experience the following symptoms:

  • Pain or sensitivity when the infected tooth is touched.
  • Sensitivity to hot and cold foods and beverages.
  • Tooth discolouration.
  • Tooth decay or other signs of physical damage.
