What is a dental filling and is it needed?

A filling is a way to restore a tooth damaged by decay or cavity, back to its normal function and shape. The dentist uses a combination of visual and tactile check and x rays to diagnose a cavity.

It is normal to experience to some hot and cold sensitivity immediately following placement of a new filling. However, patient discomfort, if any, will quickly resolve.
